What Movieland Park Is

Two facts explain the park before you buy anything.

A Hollywood Lot Beside the Lake

Movieland Park sits in Lazise on the eastern Veneto shore of Lake Garda, inside the CanevaWorld Resort right next to Caneva Aquapark. The Italian Wikipedia lists the resort area at 200,000 m2. The park is modelled on the American studio parks, where you walk through film sets and the shows happen around you.

It was the second film-themed park in Italy, after Cinecittà World. That layout matters for planning: part of the day is shows and sets you walk through, not only queues for rides. Pair a park day with the town itself using our Lazise guide, since the old port is a short hop away and makes a good evening after the rides close.

From Mister Movie Studios to Movieland Park

Construction began in 2001 under the name Mister Movie Studios. The Rambo Action Show opened on 21 June 2002, and the full park opened in 2003. The park was renamed Movieland Studios in 2006, when the Hollywood Action Tower arrived, and became Movieland Park in 2012.

Like the Disney parks, it hides service corridors called utilidors beneath the guest areas, so performers and props move out of sight between shows. The practical consequence is simple: the park is over two decades old and has been rethemed several times, so ride names on older blogs may no longer match the signs at the gate. Check the current attraction list on canevaworld.it before you promise anyone a specific ride.

The Sets You Walk Through

The park is divided into themed sets rather than abstract zones.

Main Street at Movieland Park, Lazise, Lake Garda, Italy

Main Street Set and Little Italy

The entrance area is built as a film set of an American main street, with the Little Italy set beside it. This is where the street atmosphere lives: facades dressed as movie backdrops rather than plain shops, in the style of the studio parks the design copies. You pass through here between shows, so treat it as your meeting point if your group splits up, and agree a spot by a fixed landmark when you arrive.

Arrive early on your first day and walk both sets once without stopping. You will then know the shortcuts when the crowds build after midday. Wikipedia notes the first set was modelled on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney-MGM Studios, and the second on New York's Little Italy.

The U.S. Army Set

The U.S. Army set hosts the Rambo Action Show, the stunt production that opened as the park's first attraction on 21 June 2002, back when the place was called Mister Movie Studios. The same set is home to the Kitt Superjet, a jet boat driven by a stuntman in a Knight Rider theme. Check the show times when you enter and plan the rides around them rather than the other way round.

If you are travelling with teenagers who want the loud, explosive stuff, this is their part of the park.

X-City

X-City is the park's futuristic themed area, and it has been rethemed twice, in 2010 and again in 2026 (Wikipedia). That makes it the part of the park most likely to look different from older photos and blog ride lists. The latest season also brought two other new names: the old log flume, called X-Splash until 2009, became Gran Canyon Steamer, and a pirate ship themed to prehistoric times became Iron Pick.

Before you promise a child a particular ride from an old video, check the current attraction list on the park's own site, because the names and the themes have moved more than once.

The Rides, by Thrill Level

Movieland sorts its 25 attractions into Action, Adventure and Family. The backstories of three rides are genuinely unusual.

Action: the Tower, Diabolik and the Combo Tower

The Hollywood Action Tower is an Intamin freefall tower themed on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. It is one of only four such towers still operating anywhere and the only one in Europe. It is also a second-hand ride: it first opened in 1985 at Galaxyland in Alberta, Canada, where it was called the Daring Drop of Doom, and it moved to Movieland for the 2006 season.

Diabolik Invertigo is a Vekoma Invertigo that first ran in 1999 at Six Flags America as Two Face: The Flip Side, one of three of its model still in operation worldwide. The S&S Combo Tower, launched with up to +4G, came from Dixie Landin' in Louisiana, where it was called Hot Shot. So the park's three signature thrill rides all had a first life abroad.

A Magma 2.1 MAN truck at Movieland Park in Lazise on Lake Garda, Italy

Adventure: Stunt Trucks and Jet Boats

The Adventure tier is where Movieland differs most from a normal coaster park. Magma 2.1 puts you in a MAN KAT1 military truck driven by a stunt driver through an earthquake set at a geothermal plant. The Kitt Superjet is a real jet boat driven by a stuntman.

A ride-through bus tour of the film sets echoes Universal Studios Hollywood's Backlot Tour. The U-571 submarine ride has been rethemed to a Kingsman story. The log flume Gran Canyon Steamer, converted from an older ride, gets you wet on hot afternoons.

Plan the wet rides for a hot afternoon and keep dry clothes in the car or a locker.

Family: Mini Boats, Jeeps and the Panorama Tram

Younger children get real vehicles of their own. Kids drive scaled-down mini speedboats, a small version of the Kitt Superjet, and jeeps through a course of animatronic dinosaurs. The Panorama Tram, a scenic monorail, carried a Back to the Future theme until 2019 and is now narrated by the park mascot Movy, which makes it the gentle way to see the whole site and plan the day.

There is also a walkthrough haunted house for children, next to the grown-up Holmes Hotel walkthrough, which is inspired by the 19th-century Chicago hotel of the murderer H. H. Holmes. If you are building a Lake Garda trip around young children, see our page on Lake Garda with kids for how a park day fits the wider itinerary.

Height limits for Movieland rides are not printed here, because the park publishes them only on its own site. Measure your child before you go and check the limits on canevaworld.it, so nobody meets a turnstile disappointment. For comparison, the Gardaland height chart is on our Gardaland page.

The Hollywood VIP Experience, Explained

One bookable option bundles admission, a guide and structured activities. Here is exactly what you get.

What the Day Includes

The Hollywood VIP Experience at Movieland Park costs $148.24 per person and lasts 6 to 10 hours, with groups capped at 30 people. Admission to Movieland Park is included in the price. The day starts with a briefing from a dedicated guide, then your team takes on interactive movie challenges, puzzles and missions inspired by the park's attractions and live shows.

After the guided part you get free time to explore the rides and shows at your own pace. You must arrive at the check-in area at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Wheelchair access covers all areas and surfaces, and infant seats are available.

Who It Suits and What It Leaves Out

The experience suits first-time visitors who want structure, and groups who enjoy team games, more than solo coaster collectors who would rather ride all day. Three limits matter. Food, drinks and transport are not included, so budget for lunch inside the park and arrange your own way there.

The 6 to 10 hour span means it takes most of a day, so do not stack it against another big sight. And there are no reviews yet, so nobody has publicly rated it. Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before, which makes it a safe early booking.

Movieland or Gardaland

The two parks sit a few kilometres apart on the same shore and most families pick one. The table compares them on age, size, rides and what can be booked.

The short answer: Gardaland is the older and bigger park, opened on 19 July 1975 and owned by Merlin Entertainments since 2006, with more than 40 attractions and six rollercoasters. Movieland is smaller, newer and built entirely around movie sets, live stunt shows and ride-through experiences, so it trades coaster count for theatre. Pick Movieland if your group loves shows and themes, pick Gardaland if it wants coasters, and note that the Gardaland one-day ticket costs $50, is fixed date and non-refundable. The Movieland VIP day at $148.24 cancels free up to 24 hours before.

Getting to Movieland in Lazise

The park sits in the Lazise municipality on the Gardesana Orientale road. Three ways in.

From Lazise and Bardolino by Bus

ATV Verona line 164 runs Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Gardaland, Peschiera, Castelnuovo and Verona, so it runs along this shore through Lazise. Ask the driver or check the timetable for the stop nearest CanevaWorld. Check the current timetable on atv.verona.it before you travel, since frequencies change with the season.

Buy tickets before boarding where possible. If you have booked the Hollywood VIP Experience, remember transport is not included, so the bus or your own car is on you. This is the simplest option for anyone based in Lazise, Bardolino or Garda town.

The same line also continues to Verona, which makes a park-plus-city day possible.

By Train to Peschiera

Peschiera del Garda station sits on the Milan-Venice line, the main rail artery for the whole south-east shore. From the station you continue by bus or taxi to Movieland in Lazise. Note that the free shuttle to Gardaland from Peschiera station does not serve Movieland, so do not follow the Gardaland crowds out of the station.

None of our tickets include transport: the VIP day and the Gardaland entry ticket both exclude it. If you are arriving from Milan or Verona by train, see our pages on Milan to Lake Garda and Verona to Lake Garda for the rail options, then add the local bus leg.

By Ferry to Lazise

Passenger ferries call at Lazise pier, and fares work by zone: Sirmione to Lazise is zone 4 at $12.85 (€11.50) one way, and Garda to Bardolino is zone 1 at $3.91 (€3.50). Tickets bought on board carry a $1.12 (€1.00) surcharge, so buy at a ticket office when one is open. The big catch is the season.

Navigazione Laghi runs no passenger boats from 2 November to 12 March, when only the Maderno-Torri car ferry crosses the lake. Read the full picture on our Lake Garda ferry page before you build an itinerary around the boats, and see our page on getting around Lake Garda for the bus and car alternatives in the colder months.

Lazise Around a Park Day

The park sits in the Lazise municipality, and the town itself deserves the evening.

The Old Port and the Dogana Veneta

Lazise's name comes from the Latin Lacisium, tied to Bronze Age lake-dwelling finds, and an imperial deed signed by Otto II in 983 gave the village full civic autonomy, the basis of its claim to be the First Free Commune of Italy. The old town is wrapped in early medieval walls with three gates, including Porta San Zeno, lowered by the Visconti and Gonzaga as a sign of victory over Venice. By the old port stands the Romanesque church of St Nicholas from the 12th century and the Antica Dogana Veneta customs house.

The tourist office is at Via Porto Vecchio 5. Note the historic centre is a limited traffic zone, so park outside the walls and walk in.

A Tasting Instead of a Ride

Lazise is wine country, between the Bardolino and Lugana areas, and its vineyards make the quiet half of a park trip. The Lazise vineyard wine and food tasting runs 2 hours at Azienda Agricola Le Ginestre, costs $47 per person and rates 4.9 from 277 reviews. You sample at least 6 local wines, from Garganega whites to Chiaretto and reds, with Verona salami, cheeses and Garda olive oil on toasted bread. Wine is served only to guests over 18, vegans cannot be catered for, and pets are welcome.

It books naturally as the same-day evening after a park day, or as the calm alternative for the adult half of a mixed group. Our Bardolino wine page covers the wider wine region.

Movieland Park Questions

What is Movieland Italy?

Movieland Park is a Hollywood-themed amusement park in Lazise on Lake Garda, part of the CanevaWorld Resort beside Caneva Aquapark. It has 25 attractions in three thrill levels: Action, Adventure and Family. Construction began in 2001 as Mister Movie Studios, the Rambo Action Show opened in 2002 and the full park opened in 2003. It is modelled on American studio parks and was the second Italian film-themed park after Cinecittà World. For other park options see Gardaland.

Is Movieland Italy worth visiting?

It depends on what your group values. If you love live stunt shows, movie sets and ride-through experiences, Movieland is the park on the lake built around them, and the family tier with kid-driven boats and jeeps is strong for under-tens. If you want rollercoaster count and scale, Gardaland next door is bigger and older. A structured option is the Hollywood VIP Experience, which bundles admission with guided movie challenges for $148.24 per person.

How much do Movieland tickets cost?

Movieland's own gate prices are not printed here because the park publishes them only on canevaworld.it, so check your date there before you go. What we sell directly is the Hollywood VIP Experience at Movieland Park, which costs $148.24 per person with admission included, a guide, team movie missions and free time in the park. Food, drinks and transport are not included in that price.

When does Movieland Park open?

The park's opening calendar is published only on canevaworld.it, so check your exact date there before planning travel. What is certain from the history: the park opened fully in 2003 and opens seasonally, with rethemes in 2010 and in 2026. If your trip falls in the quieter months, remember the lake's passenger ferries stop from 2 November to 12 March, which affects arrival plans. Our Lake Garda in winter page covers the off-season.

How do I get to Movieland Park in Lazise?

ATV Verona line 164 runs Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Gardaland, Peschiera and Verona along this shore, so check the timetable for the stop nearest CanevaWorld. By train, ride the Milan-Venice line to Peschiera del Garda and continue by bus, since the free Gardaland shuttle does not serve Movieland. Passenger ferries also call at Lazise, with fares by zone. None of our tickets include transport, so plan the last leg yourself. See getting around Lake Garda for the full picture.

How does Movieland compare with the bigger park next door?

Gardaland opened in 1975 and is the bigger, older park, owned by Merlin Entertainments since 2006, with more than 40 attractions and six rollercoasters. Movieland is newer, smaller and built entirely around film sets, stunt shows and themed rides. Gardaland suits coaster fans, Movieland suits show and theme lovers. Our Gardaland tickets page carries the $50 one-day entry, and the Movieland VIP day bundles admission with guided missions.

Is the Hollywood VIP Experience at Movieland good for kids?

Yes, with caveats. The experience welcomes adults 13 to 99 and children 0 to 12, infants ride on an adult's lap, strollers are allowed and infant seats are available, and all areas are wheelchair accessible. The team movie challenges, puzzles and missions suit children old enough to play along. Note the 6 to 10 hour length and that food and transport are excluded. Book the Hollywood VIP Experience and pair it with our tips for Lake Garda with kids.
