Gardaland Park: The Complete Visitor Guide

Gardaland is the theme park of Lake Garda, at Castelnuovo del Garda just inland from Peschiera on the south-east shore, Italy's number one amusement park by its own account, with 2,950,000 visitors in 2024 (Wikipedia). Gardaland Park, an aquarium, a water park and three themed hotels share one resort of 520,000 m2. Below: the rides and their height limits, the seasons, the November gap, getting there and the fast track, with more ideas on things to do in Lake Garda.

Quick answer One big day, plan around the calendar

Gardaland Park opened in 1975 and drew 2,950,000 visitors in 2024. Most visitors give it one full day, adding the SEA LIFE Aquarium only if energy allows. The park does not run every day: after Magic Halloween ends on 1 November there are no park dates until early December. The one-day ticket costs $50 per person, fixed date and non-refundable, and children under 90 cm enter free. Check the calendar before you buy anything dated.

Key takeaways

  • Buy a dated ticket only after you have matched it to the park calendar, because the park lists no dates from 2 November until Magic Winter starts on 5 December. Details on the Gardaland tickets page.
  • Ride limits are set in centimetres: the big coasters need 140 cm, while families with a 100 cm child still have plenty to share, from Colorado Boat to Peppa Pig Land. More family planning on Lake Garda with kids.
  • Travellers without a car take the train to Peschiera del Garda and the free shuttle, every 30 minutes, from 2 km away. The town itself has a lakefront worth an hour, see Peschiera del Garda.

What Gardaland Is

One resort, several gateways, and a history that starts with a Verona businessman and a trip to California.

From a Verona Idea to Italy's Biggest Park

Livio Furini, a Verona entrepreneur, visited Disneyland in California and came home with a plan. Gardaland opened on 19 July 1975 and grew into Italy's largest theme park, drawing 2,950,000 visitors in 2024 (Wikipedia). Merlin Entertainments, the company behind Legoland and Madame Tussauds, bought into the business in 2006 and still runs it.

The whole Gardaland Resort now covers 520,000 m2 (Wikipedia), which is why the park, the aquarium and the water park feel like separate destinations. That scale is also why a first visit needs a plan: look at a map, pick a themed area to start in, and walk the perimeter rather than criss-crossing the middle.

Park, Aquarium, Water Park and Three Hotels

Four pieces make up the resort. Gardaland Park holds more than 40 rides and shows across themed areas. Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium opened in 2008 as the first fully themed aquarium in Italy, with 40 pools and over 5,000 creatures, and it sells its own ticket, ours is the SEA LIFE open-date ticket.

LEGOLAND Water Park opened in 2021 as the first in Europe, covers 15,000 m2 and sits inside the main park, entered only with a combo ticket or a supplement paid there. Three themed hotels complete the site: Gardaland Hotel opened 2004, the Adventure Hotel 2016 and the Magic Hotel 2019. Each piece is ticketed separately, so decide before arrival what you actually want to cover.

The Big Rides and Who Can Ride Them

Gardaland sets its ride limits by height, not by age, in centimetres.

The table below lists each ride with its minimum and maximum height in centimetres, taken from the park's own safety-limits sheet. Some rides may not run in a given period, so check the Gardaland app on the day. Measure your children before you go, because a single centimetre decides whether the day is coasters or kiddie rides.

The Raptor wing coaster at Gardaland near Lake Garda, Italy

Oblivion, Raptor and Blue Tornado

Three coasters set the 140 cm bar. Oblivion The Black Hole opened on 28 March 2015 as a Bolliger and Mabillard dive coaster, the type that holds you at the lip of a vertical drop. Raptor opened on 1 April 2011 as the prototype B and M Wing Coaster, with seats hanging outside the track, 33 m tall (Wikipedia).

Blue Tornado is the veteran, a Vekoma suspended looping coaster from 1998 with 765 m of track and a top height of 33.32 m (Wikipedia). All three need 140 cm, and Oblivion and Raptor cap riders at 195 cm. If someone in your group is under 140 cm, Shaman at 120 cm is the big coaster they can ride.

Shaman, Space Vertigo and the Water Rides

Shaman is the oldest coaster in the park, a Vekoma from 1985 that ran as Magic Mountain before its retheme, and it admits riders from 120 cm (Wikipedia). Space Vertigo is a 40 m drop tower with a 130 cm minimum (Wikipedia), a good first big-thrill ride for a shorter teenager. The water rides sit lower still: Fuga da Atlantide, the long flume through an Atlantis set, needs 110 cm, and Jungle Rapids also runs at 110 cm with under-130s accompanied.

The water rides soak you, so a summer afternoon is the kind time to ride them.

Jumanji The Adventure, Animal Treasure Island and the Rides Families Share

The newest headline ride is Animal Treasure Island, a water dark ride that opened in 2025, the park's 50th anniversary year (Wikipedia). It needs 107 cm, with under-130s accompanied. Jumanji The Adventure also starts at 107 cm, with under-120s accompanied.

Below them sits a wide band of shared rides: Colorado Boat at 100 cm, Mammut and Rocket Factory at 110 cm, and Ortobruco Tour at 100 cm with under-120s accompanied. The accompanied rule means an adult rides along, which turns most of the park into a family option even with a five-year-old. Work from your child's measured height and you will fill a day without a single turned-away queue.

Gardaland With Small Children

The park was built with families in mind, and the small-child infrastructure is more developed than at most European parks.

The Prezzemolo tree in Fantasy Kingdom at Gardaland near Lake Garda, Italy

Peppa Pig Land, Fantasy Kingdom and Prezzemolo Land

Three areas serve the youngest visitors. In Peppa Pig Land, Peppa's hot-air balloon ride, La Mongolfiera di Peppa Pig, takes riders from 80 cm, and Grandpa Pig's little train lists no minimum height for a child riding with an adult. DoReMiFarm and Funny Express also start at 80 cm.

Prezzemolo, a young dragon, has been the park mascot since 1984, and his own Prezzemolo Land caps riders at a maximum 140 cm, so it stays a small children's zone. Fantasy Kingdom has the giant tree of Prezzemolo to climb and the Volaplano monorail overhead, from 105 cm. Start here in the morning before queues build, then let the taller children pull the group toward the coasters after lunch.

Under 90 cm Rides Free, Baby Switch Keeps Your Place

Children under 90 cm tall enter Gardaland Park and the aquarium free. The services change how the day works. Baby Switch operates on rides with height limits, so parents take turns riding without re-queuing.

A paid stroller rental serves children under 110 cm, with ID required. The Welcome office issues a child ID bracelet printed with your phone number, and there is a nursery in Fantasy Kingdom with high chairs, a bottle warmer and a changing area. Children must stay with an adult at all times.

If you are comparing park days across the lake, Lake Garda with kids lines up the alternatives.

Where to Pause

Gardaland marks designated relaxation areas, and three are worth knowing: T-Relax Park, the area by Fuga da Atlantide and the one by Shaman. Free Wi-Fi covers the park, so you can message a split-up group. Re-entry is allowed, get a hand stamp at the turnstiles and leave for a lakeside lunch or a hotel nap, then walk back in.

This matters most with toddlers, who rarely last a full park day without a break. Plan the pause around a show time so the day keeps a shape, and let the children choose the last ride before you leave.

When Gardaland Is Open

Gardaland does not run a simple summer season. Event openings, an autumn gap and daily hour changes all matter.

The calendar below lays out the seasons: the main season from 28 March to 1 November, Magic Halloween from 12 September to 1 November, Scary Fridays on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 October from 5 pm to 10 pm, the Halloween Party on 31 October from 5 pm to midnight, the Supermagic Elementi show 4 to 8 December, and Magic Winter from 5 December to 6 January with the park plus LEGO Miniland. Read it before booking any dated ticket.

The November Gap

Magic Halloween ends on 1 November, and the park lists no dates from 2 November to 3 December. Supermagic runs 4 to 8 December, and Magic Winter opens on 5 December and runs to 6 January. If your trip falls in November, Gardaland is simply not an option, so build the itinerary around the lake towns instead.

The timing also lines up with the water: the state ferry company runs no passenger boats from 2 November to 12 March, see the ferry season. Because the entry ticket is fixed date and non-refundable, check the calendar first, then buy the Gardaland one-day ticket for a day you know is open.

Hours Change Day by Day

The park publishes a daily opening time rather than a fixed one, so check the calendar or the app for your date. Ticket offices close 2 hours before the park closes, which means a late arrival can leave you without a gate ticket, though walk-up sales happen at the gate while the office is open. The SEA LIFE Aquarium admits visitors until 1 hour before closing.

There is no refund for rain or a power outage, so treat a wet forecast as a planning problem, not a money problem. Arriving at opening time buys you the quietest two hours of the day on the headline coasters.

How Much Time to Give Gardaland

One day is the standard answer, but the right length depends on the aquarium, the water park and your children's stamina.

The table below compares three routings with times that are our estimate. Park only means one full day, arriving at opening and leaving at closing. Park plus SEA LIFE adds the aquarium walk, either the same day before its last entry or the next morning, since it is reached on foot from the park.

Two days suits families with riders under 120 cm, who move slower and repeat favourites. If you are short on lake time, cut the water park, not the park itself. Pair the second day with something on the water, such as Sirmione boat trips, to keep the trip balanced.

Getting to Gardaland Without Stress

The resort sits at Via Derna 4, Castelnuovo del Garda, just inland from the south-east shore. Trains, buses and the A4 all converge nearby.

By Train and the Free Shuttle From Peschiera

The park lies 2 km from Peschiera del Garda station, and a free round-trip shuttle runs every 30 minutes, with the first departure 30 minutes before opening and the last run 30 minutes after closing. Trenord sells train and park entry in one combined ticket, which is worth pricing before you buy separately. Verona, Milan and Venice all feed that line, so a car-free day trip is realistic.

The station town rewards an hour either side of your park day, so read up on Peschiera del Garda and its fortress walls before you go. Keep your return shuttle time in mind when you plan the last ride.

By Car: Exits and the Free Car Park

Drivers leave the A4 Milan-Venice at Peschiera del Garda coming from Milan, or at Sommacampagna or Peschiera coming from Venice. From the A22, the Brenner route, exit at Affi and follow the dual carriageway toward Peschiera. The main car park on Via Derna is free and opens 1 hour before the park, which is a good reason to arrive in that hour, since you queue for the gates rather than the tarmac.

Covered spaces are sold separately online with limited daily availability. Motorhomes use the bus park on Via Ronchi, and no overnight parking is allowed after closing, so campers need a campsite plan.

By Bus From the Lake Towns

ATV line 164 runs Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Gardaland, Peschiera, Castelnuovo and Verona, which makes the park reachable by bus from most of the south-east shore towns without a car. Check the current ATV timetable before travel, because frequencies change with the season. From towns further north, a ferry or bus connection to one of the line 164 stops is the practical route, and getting around without a car explains the combinations.

The same line carries you home to Lazise or Bardolino after the park, so note the last bus before you go in.

Gardaland Express: Is Fast Track Worth It

Gardaland Express is the park's paid fast track, bought on top of entry, at the park's own prices.

Express works as an app-based virtual queue, valid only on the visit day, with limited daily availability, and it is personal and non-refundable. Three tiers exist: Give Me 5 covers one ride on 5 chosen attractions at $30.16 (€27) online or $33.52 (€30) at park kiosks, Epic 17 covers 17 attractions including Raptor and Colorado Boat at $63.68 (€57) online or $67.03 (€60), and No Limits gives unlimited rides on those 17 at $97.20 (€87) online or $100.55 (€90). Each tier includes 20% off in park shops.

Buy online, because it is cheaper than the kiosk, and it only makes sense on peak days when waits run long. Full detail on how the app queue works sits on the Gardaland tickets page.

Is Gardaland Worth It, and Is It Like Disneyland

The two questions visitors ask most, and both have honest answers that depend on your trip.

Like Disneyland?

The inspiration is real: founder Livio Furini modelled his park on a visit to Disneyland in California. The comparison holds in ambition, not in scale. Gardaland is one park plus an aquarium plus a water park plus three themed hotels on a 520,000 m2 site, and it drew 2,950,000 visitors in 2024 (Wikipedia).

What Gardaland delivers is the same idea on a single site: themed lands, a mascot in Prezzemolo, its own themed hotels and coasters such as Raptor, the prototype of its type. With three million annual visitors it ranks seventh in Europe (Wikipedia). Go expecting a big European park rather than a Disney resort and the day works.

Who Should Go, Who Should Skip

Thrill riders should go: anyone over 140 cm gets three major coasters, a drop tower and two water rides in one gate. Families with children between 90 cm and 130 cm arguably get the best deal, since the accompanied rules open most of the park. Who should skip it?

A first-time lake visitor with only two or three days who came for the water, the towns and the boats may find a park day a poor trade. There is a film-studio alternative closer to the shore at Movieland in Lazise, and a VIP experience there, the Hollywood VIP experience, bundles admission with a guided mission day.

Do This, Not That

Do

  • Measure your children's height at home and plan rides from the safety chart in centimetres.
  • Check the daily calendar before buying any dated ticket, especially for late autumn dates.
  • Take the free shuttle from Peschiera del Garda station and skip the car park entirely.
  • Use the hand stamp at the turnstiles and leave the park for a midday break with small children.
  • Buy Gardaland Express online rather than at the kiosks on any peak summer day.

Don't

  • Do not book a fixed-date ticket for a November day, the park lists nothing until early December.
  • Do not arrive after mid afternoon, the ticket office closes 2 hours before the park does.
  • Do not expect a refund for rain, the park states clearly that wet weather pays back nothing.
  • Do not plan a late SEA LIFE visit on its own clock, it admits until only 1 hour before closing.
  • Do not count the water park in a base ticket, it needs a combo ticket or a supplement paid at the park.

Gardaland Questions

Is Gardaland like Disneyland?

The founder was directly inspired by Disneyland, and Gardaland copied the model of themed lands, a mascot and on-site hotels, now three of them on a 520,000 m2 resort. The scale is smaller than any Disney resort, with one park, an aquarium and a water park rather than multiple gates. Go expecting a strong European theme park with excellent coasters, not a Disney clone, and the day works. Compare it with the film park option at Movieland before you commit.

Is Gardaland worth it?

For thrill riders over 140 cm and for families with children between 90 and 130 cm, yes, because the accompanied rules open most of the more than 40 attractions to shorter kids. The one-day entry ticket runs $50 per person with under-90s free, see the Gardaland one-day ticket. If your trip is short and built around the lake, the towns and the boats, one park day may be a poor trade. Browse Lake Garda tours for the alternatives on the water.

How many days do you need at Gardaland?

One full day covers Gardaland Park for most visitors, arriving at opening and staying to the evening. Add a couple of hours for the SEA LIFE Aquarium (our estimate), which you can visit the same day or the next, since it is reached on foot from the park. Families with riders under 120 cm often prefer two days at a slower pace. The LEGOLAND Water Park needs its own time, as it takes a combo ticket or a supplement, so decide before you travel what the day should include.

How expensive is Gardaland?

The one-day entry ticket costs $50 per person for one fixed date, non-refundable, with children under 90 cm free, that is the Gardaland one-day ticket. The aquarium alone is far cheaper at $10 through the SEA LIFE open-date ticket. On top of entry, fast track runs from $30.16 (€27) online, the main car park is free and covered spaces sell separately. The park also sells walk-up tickets at the gate.

What are the ride height limits at Gardaland?

Limits are set in centimetres on the park's safety-limits sheet. The headline coasters, Oblivion, Raptor and Blue Tornado, all need 140 cm. Shaman starts at 120 cm, Space Vertigo at 130 cm, and the water rides Fuga da Atlantide and Jungle Rapids at 110 cm. Jumanji The Adventure and Animal Treasure Island sit at 107 cm, Colorado Boat at 100 cm. Many rides allow under-130s or under-120s when accompanied, so an adult riding along unlocks most of the park. Some rides may not run in a given period, so check the app.

Is Gardaland open in November?

Effectively no. Magic Halloween runs to 1 November, and the park lists no opening dates between then and early December, when Supermagic runs 4 to 8 December and Magic Winter opens on 5 December through 6 January. If your trip falls in November, plan around the lake instead, keeping in mind that passenger ferries also stop from 2 November to 12 March, see the ferry season. For what the cold months do offer, read Lake Garda in winter.

How do you get to Gardaland without a car?

Take the train to Peschiera del Garda, 2 km from the gates, and use the free shuttle that runs every 30 minutes, starting 30 minutes before opening and finishing 30 minutes after closing. Trenord sells train and park entry as one combined ticket. From the lake towns on the east shore, ATV line 164 links Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Gardaland and Peschiera, though you should check the current timetable. The full picture of connections, buses and ferries sits in getting around Lake Garda.

Fix the Date Before You Fix the Ticket

The $50 entry ticket is fixed date and non-refundable, so match it to an open day on the calendar first. Then book the Gardaland one-day ticket and lock in the ride plan.

The ticket is fixed-date and non-refundable: match it to the park calendar first.
