Lake Garda Camping: Campsites, Seasons, Prices and Dog Rules

Lake Garda camping puts you beside the water for less than a hotel room, but the lake spans three regions and every campsite writes its own rules. This page lists the named campsites in Peschiera, Lazise, Sirmione, San Felice del Benaco, Malcesine, Torbole and Riva del Garda, drawing only on what each site publishes about itself, together with the two fixed price lists, the tourist tax on a campsite night and the dog rules that change from one gate to the next. If you decide a roof suits you better, see where to stay. Once the tent is up, plan your days with our guide to things to do in Lake Garda.

Quick answer Lake Garda camping in four lines

Campsites run roughly spring to autumn. Camping Sirmione opens 1 April to 11 October with adults at $13.41-17.88 (€12-16) a night and pitches from $8.94 to $58.09 (€8-52). Bella Italia in Peschiera admits no pets at all, while Camping Sirmione takes one small dog per pitch free and Camping Claudia in Malcesine charges $3.35-7.26 (€3-6.50) a night for one.

Lake Garda Campsites, Shore by Shore

What each campsite says about itself, drawn from its own pages.

Camping Bella Italia, Peschiera

Bella Italia is a 5-star campsite in Peschiera del Garda on the flat southeast shore, and it puts its beach a few metres from the pitches. Pitches for campers and caravans are flat, up to 90 sqm, take up to 6 people and carry a 16 A / 220 V connection with water supply and drainage. Six sanitary blocks have hot showers.

You choose your pitch on arrival, and the gate is open 7:00-23:00. Pools open about Easter and close mid-September, weather permitting. Reception runs 8:00-22:00, check-in 8:00-22:00 and check-out 8:00-10:00.

Beyond pitching, the site offers mobile homes, bungalows, apartments and a 57-room hotel, and for next season's bookings it advertises offers such as 7 nights for the price of 5. The one hard limit to know before you book: pets are not allowed, and motorbikes and electric scooters are banned too. For park days nearby, see Gardaland.

Piani di Clodia, Lazise

Piani di Clodia is a 5-star holiday park in Lazise on the southeast shore, at Via Fossalta 42. It offers camping pitches alongside maxicaravans, bungalows and glamping. Its next season runs 18 March to 3 October.

The pool complex is the draw: 7 swimming pools, 6 slides classed as adrenaline slides, 12 slides for small children, plus 2 restaurants and pizzerias, tennis and padel courts and free Wi-Fi. Dogs are welcome, including on the beach if park rules are respected, with fenced dog areas, an agility course and a free dog shower. A dog-friendly beach area opens in high season and a dog spray park is planned from 2027.

On money, no fixed price list is printed. Prices come out of the booking engine by accommodation type and length of stay, with a minimum occupancy of 2 people, and the price does not drop if fewer guests arrive. Lazise town itself is a short trip away, see Lazise.

Camping Lido, Lazise

Camping Lido sits on Via Peschiera 2 in Lazise, close to the water on the southeast shore. For next season it opens 18 March and closes 1 November. Direct bookings of pitches and maxicaravans get 10% off 7 nights and 14% off 14 nights in the shoulder windows, 18 March to 12 May and 19 September to 1 November.

Note the small print for families: children from the age of 8 count as adults for the rate. Pitch types run from Standard up to Plus, Top, VIP and lake pitches, with glamping and apartments as well as an aquapark. Dogs are admitted, and the campsite points to the dog beach La Bosca a short distance away.

Lazise's old port and the lakeside walks make an easy evening stroll, see Lazise.

Camping Sirmione, Colombare

Camping Sirmione sits directly on the lake in the Colombare district, 3 km from Sirmione castle, on 30,000 sqm of ground. It has 3 pools, two for adults and one for children, a lakeside restaurant-pizzeria, canoe, pedalo and boat rental, and a beach about a minute's walk from the accommodation. Pitch types step up through Ridotta, grass with no car and no electricity, Standard on grass or gravel with 3 A, Superior and Superior a Lago on gravel with 6 A, Premium and Comfort on gravel with 10 A, and Platea, an asphalt pitch 5.5 m wide.

Camper service is on the premises. It is one of the two campsites on this page with a full printed price list, which you can read in the price section. One small dog per pitch is admitted free, but no dogs in the apartments.

Once you are settled, the castle and the Roman ruins are the obvious days out, see Sirmione castle and the Grotte di Catullo.

Camping Tiglio, Lugana di Sirmione

Camping Tiglio stands at Punta Grò in Lugana di Sirmione, on the south shore. It has 170 shaded pitches, arranged as Standard, Second Row and Lakefront, all with 6 A electricity and free camper service. There are apartments too, 3 pools, a restaurant-pizzeria, bike rental and a jetty on the lake reached by a path.

The site gives a 10% discount for direct booking. Dogs are allowed. Star class, opening dates and prices are not printed on the English pitch pages, and the price list is offered as a separate PDF, so ask by email or download it before you commit.

Lugana di Sirmione is the heart of the Lugana white wine zone, see Lake Garda food for the wine.

Fornella, San Felice del Benaco

Fornella Camping and Wellness Family Resort lies 2 km from San Felice del Benaco centre and 5 km from Salò, on over 110,000 sqm between the lake and an olive farm, with two beaches. The published seasons differ by year: 1 April to 18 October this year, and 15 April to 17 October next year, so check which year you are booking. Dogs must be declared at booking and again on arrival, are allowed only in certain accommodation types, must stay on a leash at all times and must not be left unattended.

The site adds a dog shower, a dog-friendly beach and an off-site fenced dog park, open daily 8:00-21:00, where access runs on a chip with a $5.59 (€5) deposit. The west shore position puts you within reach of Salò and, further north, the gorge road, see Salò and the Strada della Forra.

Camping Brione, Riva del Garda

Camping Brione on Via Brione 32 in Riva del Garda describes itself as one of the very few 4-star campsites in Trentino, set in an olive grove a few steps from the lake at the fjord-like northern tip. Its season runs 26 March to 2 November, so early spring and late autumn trips work here. It offers pitches, bungalows and mobile homes, a pool and bike rental, and it is dog-friendly.

Base here and you can walk into Riva, ride north toward Torbole or head up on foot, see Riva del Garda, Torbole and the lake hiking guide.

Camping al Porto, Torbole

Camping al Porto sits in the centre of Torbole, a few metres from the lake at the northern tip where the windsurf boards launch. It has 4 pitch categories, from car-free tent pitches up to large caravan pitches, plus 10 apartments, mini glamping, 2 new mobile homes, a pool and an adults-only jacuzzi, and it runs a camper service stop. Prices and opening dates are not printed on its pages, and booking goes through a reservation engine, so you will see the rate only when you enter dates.

Torbole is the lake's windsurf base, see the windsurfing guide.

Camping Claudia and Camping Tonini, Malcesine

Camping Claudia lies at Loc. Campagnola, between two bays north of Malcesine, about 30 m from the lake. It is a base for windsurf, sailing and the Monte Baldo cable car.

It prints a full price list, one of the two on this page, and charges $3.35-7.26 (€3-6.50) a night for a dog, a useful contrast with Bella Italia's pet ban. Hot showers and 10 A electricity are included in the pitch price. Nearby, Camping Tonini at Loc.

Polpere on Via Gardesana 378 is listed by the Veneto Region tourism site as 2 km from Malcesine old town, with terraced pitches with lake view in an olive grove and a private underpass to the lake. Malcesine's castle and the cable car dominate the plan here, see Malcesine castle and Monte Baldo tickets.

What a Night Costs

Only two campsites on the lake print a fixed price list, so most bookings are quoted live.

Most campsites quote through a booking engine instead of publishing a list, so the table below is worth studying before you budget. It compares the two campsites that do print full figures, Camping Sirmione in Colombare with its three season bands and Camping Claudia in Malcesine with its range across five price bands. Camping Sirmione's low band covers 7 April to 13 May, the mid band covers 1-7 April, 13 May to 10 July and 31 August to 11 October, and the high band covers 10 July to 31 August.

Claudia quotes each line as a range from its lowest band to its peak. Claudia includes the car in the pitch price, Sirmione charges for an extra car.

Seasonal Pitches and Storage

If you plan to keep a caravan by the lake all summer, Camping Sirmione prints the only published seasonal rate. A seasonal subscription for the full 1 April to 11 October season costs $4,077.78 (€3,650) for a standard pitch and $4,412.94 (€3,950) for a superior pitch that covers caravan, car and electricity. Winter caravan storage from 11 October to 31 March costs $558.60 (€500).

At Camping Claudia the relevant condition is people, not storage. The site requires a minimum of 2 persons per pitch in high and peak season, so a solo traveller pays for two in the busy weeks. For a wider budget picture beyond the pitch fee, see our Lake Garda costs page, and for other lodging see where to stay.

The Tourist Tax on a Campsite Night

Campsites pay a lower rate than hotels in most towns, and the exemptions differ by town.

The per-person nightly tax that each town or province charges on a campsite or tourist-village night, from the official tax schedules of the towns and of Garda Trentino, with the nights charged and the child exemption.

TownCampsite rate per person per nightNights chargedChildren exempt
Sirmione$1.23 (€1.10) tourist village, $0.67 (€0.60) camper areasup to 7up to age 14
Desenzano del Garda$0.45-0.89 (€0.40-0.80) by starsNo cap printedNot on the schedule
Peschiera del Garda$1.40 (€1.25) up to 3-star, $1.68 (€1.50) 4-starup to 21up to and including age 12
Limone sul Garda$1.12 (€1)No cap printedup to the tenth year
Malcesine$1.12 (€1)up to 20up to 14.99
Riva del Garda, Trentino$1.68 (€1.50)up to 10under 14

How the Tax Is Paid

You do not pay the tax at a kiosk. In Desenzano the guest pays it to the host, and Trentino campsites collect it before the last day. On the rates above, a campsite night adds $0.45 (€0.40) to $1.68 (€1.50) per person on top of the pitch and adult rates.

If you cross into Trentino, the provincial rule caps the charge at 10 nights and exempts children up to 14, so a long family stay in Riva costs less tax than the same stay in the south. Sirmione applies its tax all year, not just in season. For the fuller money picture on the lake, see Lake Garda costs.

Camping With a Dog

Rules differ more between campsites than prices do, and one 5-star bans pets outright.

Where Dogs Are Welcome

Piani di Clodia in Lazise is the most dog-equipped of the big parks. Dogs are welcome on the beach if park rules are respected, with fenced dog areas, an agility course, a free dog shower and a dog-friendly beach area in high season. Camping Lido, also in Lazise, admits dogs and points to the dog beach La Bosca a short distance away.

Camping Sirmione admits one small dog per pitch free, the lowest dog charge on this page, though no dogs go in the apartments. Camping Claudia in Malcesine charges $3.35-7.26 (€3-6.50) a night for a dog, printed openly in its price list. Fornella takes dogs in certain accommodation types only, they must be declared at booking and arrival, stay leashed and never be left unattended, and its fenced dog park off site runs on a chip with a $5.59 (€5) deposit.

Camping Brione in Riva del Garda is dog-friendly. Of the campsites on this page, only Bella Italia refuses dogs.

Where They Are Not

Bella Italia in Peschiera admits no pets at all, so skip it if your dog travels with you. Beach rules are separate from campsite rules. On all Sirmione beaches dogs must be leashed and may swim, and lighting fires and barbecues is forbidden on every beach.

Jamaica Beach, below the Grottoes of Catullus, allows dogs on a leash but allows no camping, so a daytime visit with the dog is fine and an overnight stay on the rocks is not. The beach sits down a steep dirt path through an olive grove, reached through the gate just before the Grottoes entrance, so wear shoes you can trust. Plan dog days around Sirmione boat trips or a swim at the Lake Garda beaches that suit pets.

Camper Vans and the Off Season

Where a van can stop without a campsite booking, and what shuts down in winter.

Official Camper Stops

Garda Trentino, the north-Trentino tourism body, lists official camper parking at Torbole, Riva del Garda (Area Sosta Camper Brione), Arco (San Pancrazio), Bezzecca, Comano and Ronzo-Chienis (La Baita). The list page shows no prices for Torbole, Riva or Arco, so ask on arrival. Two published figures help you budget.

The Comano camper stop at Ponte Arche has 32 pitches of 52 sqm with electricity and water, open all year 8:00-20:00, charging $26.81 (€24) per stopover in low periods and $40.22 (€36) in high periods, though it is not on the lake. La Baita at 1,250 m on Passo Bordala, 20 km from Torbole, has 5 pitches at $16.76 (€15) for one night, $33.52 (€30) for two and $44.69 (€40) for three, with showers at $5.59 (€5) per person per night. In the south, Sirmione taxes its camper areas at just $0.67 (€0.60) per person per night, and Peschiera lists a Camper Service among its paid parking areas with no price shown.

For moving around once parked, see getting around Lake Garda.

Winter

Most campsites close between autumn and spring. Camping Sirmione shuts 11 October, Brione closes 2 November, Fornella runs to mid-October, and Piani di Clodia and Camping Lido publish seasons ending in autumn, so check each site's dates before planning an off-season pitch. From 2 November to 12 March there are no passenger boats on the lake at all.

The only crossing is the Torri del Benaco to Maderno car ferry, so a van wintering on one shore faces a long drive around to the other. If you do need it, the car ferry charges $27.93 (€25) one way for a camper, driver included. Winter travel on the lake is quiet and doable but plan around the closures, see Lake Garda in winter, the ferry guide and Lake Garda weather.

Camping at Lake Garda: Dos and Don'ts

Do

  • Book Bella Italia alternatives early if you travel with a dog, because its pet ban is absolute.
  • Ask each campsite for its current price list before you book, since only Camping Sirmione and Camping Claudia print full figures on this page and the rest quote live.
  • Add the tourist tax to your budget, $0.45 (€0.40) to $1.68 (€1.50) per person per night at a campsite, because the campsite collects it before you leave.
  • Use the official camper areas in Trentino, such as Comano or La Baita, when you want a stopover without a full campsite booking.
  • Plan a winter crossing through the Maderno to Torri car ferry at $27.93 (€25) for a camper, because no passenger boats run from 2 November to 12 March.

Don't

  • Do not turn up at Fornella with an undeclared dog, since dogs must be declared at booking and arrival and are only allowed in certain accommodation types.
  • Do not camp on Jamaica Beach in Sirmione, as dogs on a leash are welcome but camping and fires are forbidden.
  • Do not bring children aged 8 or over to Camping Lido expecting child rates, because children from 8 count as adults for the price.
  • Do not book a solo week at Camping Claudia in high or peak season, since a minimum of 2 persons per pitch applies.
  • Do not count on pitching your tent at Bella Italia if you ride a motorbike, because motorbikes and electric scooters are not allowed on site.

Lake Garda Camping: Questions

Can you camp at Lake Garda?

Yes. Every shore has named campsites, from 5-star parks such as Bella Italia in Peschiera and Piani di Clodia in Lazise to small olive-grove sites such as Brione in Riva del Garda. Seasons run roughly spring to autumn, for example Camping Sirmione from 1 April to 11 October. Compare the options in our campsites list before you choose a shore.

When does the camping season at Lake Garda start and end?

It varies by site rather than by rule. Camping Sirmione runs 1 April to 11 October, Camping Brione 26 March to 2 November, Fornella 1 April to 18 October, Piani di Clodia 18 March to 3 October, and Camping Lido 18 March to 1 November. Most sites shut between October and March, so plan winter trips around Lake Garda in winter.

How expensive is a Lake Garda campsite?

The two published lists give the range. Camping Sirmione charges adults $13.41-17.88 (€12-16) a night and pitches $8.94-58.09 (€8-52) by season. Camping Claudia charges adults $11.17-17.88 (€10-16) and pitches $13.41-20.11 (€12-18) with the car included. Add the local tourist tax per person per night. Full figures are in our price table.

Which Lake Garda campsites allow dogs?

Most of them, with different conditions. Piani di Clodia has fenced dog areas and a dog beach, Camping Lido points to the La Bosca dog beach, Camping Sirmione takes one small dog per pitch free, Claudia charges $3.35-7.26 (€3-6.50) a night, and Fornella and Brione accept dogs with rules. The exception is Bella Italia, which admits no pets. Details are in the dog section.

Is wild camping allowed at Lake Garda?

No lakeside town publishes a rule that allows wild camping, so do not plan on it. The safe options are the campsites on this page and the official camper areas listed by Garda Trentino, such as Comano and La Baita. Beach camping is expressly forbidden at Jamaica Beach in Sirmione. See the camper stop guide for legal stops.

Are Lake Garda campsites open in winter?

Mostly no. Camping Sirmione closes 11 October, Brione closes 2 November, Fornella runs to mid-October, and Piani di Clodia and Camping Lido publish autumn closing dates, so most pitches shut between October and March. From 2 November to 12 March no passenger boats run, leaving only the Maderno to Torri car ferry at $27.93 (€25) for a camper. Plan around Lake Garda in winter.
